ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ARTIFICIAL
We are equally as passionate about what we would never put in our products. We never add any salt or artificial additives like preservatives or colourings, nor do we fortify our ingredients with vitamins and minerals. So we'll never use sulphur dioxide or anything you can't pronounce or picture what it looks like. We choose our ingredients because they have all of this goodness naturally, so why would we need to manufacture it or add it in artificially?
NUTS & SEEDS
From Brilliant Brazils to the Awesome Almond – go nuts go. If you're a nut fan, you probably love them because they're tasty little things but they are also full of brilliant stuff too. Nuts and seeds are a great source of energy, providing essential proteins and minerals. Brazil nuts especially are a good source of selenium, which helps your immune system to function normally* as well as helping to maintain healthy hair* and nails* (we don't recommend you washing your hair with our granolas though). Because they typically contain fat, you might be wondering: 'Are nuts good for you?'. The fat that ingredients such as Brazil nuts contain is mainly unsaturated – this is the good fat that helps maintain cholesterol levels**. With this high fat content in mind, it's about getting the right balance - so Jordans recipes are expertly designed to give you a range of nuts, whole grains and fruit in every bowlful to give you a healthy and delicious mix. *Selenium contributes to the normal function of the immune system, the maintenance of normal hair and the maintenance of normal nails when consumed as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Brazil Nuts typically contain a significant amount of the recommended daily intake of selenium. **Reducing consumption of saturated fat contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels when consumed as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Foods low in saturated fat contain less than 1.5g of saturated fat per 100g and saturated fat does not contribute more than 10% of energy.
FRUITS & BERRIES
From awesome apples to zingy raspberries. Juicy raisins and sultanas, delicious apples and dates, brilliant black currants and blueberries, crisp cranberries, tangy raspberries and sweet strawberries... that's a lot of fruit and we use them all in our cereals. Things could get a bit mushy if we used fresh fruit, so, we choose dried or freeze dried fruit, which simply removes the water but keeps all the nutrients like vitamins, minerals and fibre so they still contribute towards 1 of your 5 a day. Not only that, they taste brilliant too (just try our zingy freeze dried raspberries – tang-tastic!).
Our tiny little superheroes in all our products. Just without the capes. Oats are a great idea for breakfast as they give us the energy we need to kick start the day, as well as containing essential proteins and fibre. And just to top it all off, they're low in saturated fat too. If you're looking into how to lower cholesterol, you'll be interested to know that oats also contain beta glucan, which has been proven to bring cholesterol levels down*. Keeping these levels low helps to keep your heart healthy. What's more, oats do all of this naturally – so we don't have to add a single thing to help you stay healthy. What more could you ask for from the humble oat? Oh, that they also make our products taste scrummy too – whether it's our creamy porridge or baked to crunchy perfection in our granolas. *Oat beta glucan has been shown to lower blood cholesterol when consumed as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. Each portion of Jordans Granola provides at least 1g of beta glucan, a third of the recommended daily intake of 3g.
WHOLE GRAINS & FIBRE
A treasure trove of nutrients all in one clever little kernel. At Jordans, we use the whole of the grain. This means the oats, wheat and barley you find in our breakfast cereals are made up of every single bit of the edible grain; including the bran, germ and, wait for it... endosperm. May not sound the most glamorous, but trust us these little jewels are filled with an array of vitamins, minerals and fibre. The great thing about whole grains is that they contain far more nutrients than their lesser cousins, the refined grains. Looking for a little fact to impress your friends with? Well, whole grains have around four times the amount of fibre as refined ones, which helps maintain a healthy digestive system*. So, while every Jordans product is at least a source of fibre, some of our products (like our scrumptious Super Granolas) are actually high in fibre too. Fibre-tastic! *Oat grain fibre, barley grain fibre and wheat bran fibre contribute to an increase in faecal bulk when consumed as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. High fibre foods are those that contain 6g of fibre per 100g.
